Bold, ripe and assertive, with rich, distinctive blueberry, huckleberry and boysenberry fruit that’s pure and delicious, tightly focused on the fruit and showing hints of mineral, sage, cola and earth on the finish. Finally the vintage where the estate wine struts its stuff. Drink now through 2015. From California -- J.L.

California Grapevine August-September 2008

Medium-light to medium-ruby color; attractive, floral, cherry and strawberry fruit aroma with overtones of vanilla; medium-full to full body; rich, plush, ripe cherry fruit flavors; well-balanced and structured; medium-full tannins, lingering aftertaste. Very enjoyable to drink now, though will benefit from a few more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended. 90 Points.

($48) Deep red. Smoky black raspberry and cherry aromas display good ripeness and depth, with baking spices and fresh flowers adding energy. Fleshy red and dark berry preserve flavors are chewy and palate-staining, gaining energy and spicy lift on the close. Light, youthful tannins add grip to the persistent, sappy finish. Offers a deft balance of richness and lift, in a decidedly New World mold. (JR) 90 points.
