Who we are

Stephen Kanzler, Lynda Kanzler, Alex Kanzler

Kanzler Vineyards is a small family run operation. The Kanzlers came to Sonoma County in 1992 and purchased the land that became Kanzler Vineyard in 1993. Steve’s background is as an executive in information technology. Lynda is a graduate of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. Steve oversees the vineyard and winery businesses. Lynda is Kanzler Vineyard's Chief Financial Officer. Daughter Melissa Kanzler Grant helps to market and promote the wine. Son-in-law James Grant handles legal matters.

Steve and Lynda’s son Alex Kanzler recently took the reins as winemaker. Alex has long been preparing for this role. He grew up on the vineyard estate spending countless hours in the rows, working side-by-side with the crew of vineyard manager Eric Neil, learning viticulture the old fashioned way. After graduating from the University of Colorado in summer 2008, Alex worked the fall harvest at long time Kanzler Vineyards fruit customer Landmark Wines learning from winemaker Greg Stach. In the spring of 09 Alex traveled to New Zealand to work the harvest at central Otago, Pinot Noir specialist Carrick Wines. After returning from New Zealand, it was off to Oregon to work the Fall 2009 harvest at stellar Pinot producer Domain Serene. In 2010 Alex honed his winemaking skills under the tutelage of Michael Browne and Shane Finley at Kosta-Browne and Russell Bevan of Bevan Cellars. He is currently also the assistant winemaker for Jemrose Wines, Santa Rosa, CA, and works at premium custom crush facility Vinify Wine Services. Alex lives amongst the vines at the estate vineyard in the Sebastopol Hills region of west Sonoma County and supervises all vineyard operations.

Because of the high demand, Kanzler Vineyards Pinot Noir is tightly allocated and only members of our mailing list can purchase wine directly from the winery. If you are interested in purchasing our wines, click here.
